Are Spin Tests Valid?
We love doing spin tests, especially before and after, because it shows the remarkable performance gains our products offer when compared head-to-head against our competition. The other advantage for the viewer is seeing how the products respond after installation seeing that, especially with press fits, the post-installation performance of any bottom bracket is profoundly influenced by the pressure the frame is exerting upon it. But then the trolls come in and spew nonsense about preloaded spin tests, as if a bearing system that is running poorly when free-spinning will suddenly improve under a load, and vice versa. They would never say this about a wheel system, and so in this video we compare wheel spin performance to bottom bracket spin performance as the two are so obviously correlated.
Some people like to talk about the validity of spin tests and I find this very interesting when I spin a crank like this this is a before this is not a BBInfinite and it looks like that or even at the after when I spin it as BBInfinite it goes on forever they a lot of times people are saying you know like oh it needs to be a loaded spin test first of all I have no idea what a loaded spin test would even look like if somebody could explain that one to me and then let me draw your attention to this front wheel. If I was gonna spin this front wheel and it spins like that like I grab it and I spin it and it spins like this would you say that was good or would you say it was bad that it should spin more like this so I'll tell you what we're going to go ahead and change this bottom bracket right now to a bb infinite one and we'll see if this can look more like okay so now we've installed the BBInfinite BB86 Shimano bottom bracket and now we want to go ahead and do our spin test wait a minute guys you saw it look better already but what I like better than even a spin test is what I would like to call an acceleration test watch this see how because the weight this right here is the weight on the wheel so see how it's pulling the wheel down see that that lets you know right there that the bearings are set up very nicely so that when you spin it you get something more like this
