Don't buy a special tool to take a quick link apart come on in here let me show you how to do it. Here's a quick-link right there okay so it needs to slide apart this particular one. One plate is going to go this way right, and the other plate is going to go that way to come apart. So what you want to do is we want to loosen the chain up you can even lock the derailleur out like that and then locate your quick link and there she is so we're going to go ahead and we're going to go ahead and do this with it I just kind of do that makes it easier for me because then I'm going to grab a pair of pliers just like this and this jaw of the plier needs to go on the bottom of this plate and this jaw up here is going to go on the opposite plate just like that can you see that just like that and then we're going to boop it apart just that easy of course one dropped one moment I'm back okay so how to put it back together I see a lot of guys kind of doing this you kind of you know they do this number they get this far they slide it apart they slide it together like that and then they start pulling it and doing all kinds of stuff totally unnecessary all you have to do is just kind of put it back on the bike just like that and let it come right through the derailleur if it will there you go right there so the quick link is there and it's not together all the way so just focus in on that right there while I do this what I'm doing is I'm grabbing the rear brake and I'm popping the rear pedal boom together just like that see that so I grab the rear brake now the chain link has to be on the top right because I'm pulling this way if it's down here it's not going to work so you have to just like that boom done back together easy as can be no special tools required all you need is a pair of pliers
