Ceramitech WS2 Coated Bearings Are Here!

Ceramitech WS2 Coated Bearings Are Here!

October 17, 2019

How do you improve the performance and durability of the highest quality hybrid ceramic bearings on the market? Easy, ask a rocket scientist.

There are other companies out there rushing coated bearings to the market with no mention of what the coating is, be it Teflon, graphite, molybdenum disulfide, or simple nitride. Perhaps you should think twice before buying a bearing set that has a mystery coating applied. Let us just say that most coatings we’ve run across are merely there for corrosion protection, which is nice, but it won’t help you win that next race, set that next PR, or simply rip the legs off your buddies during the next group ride throw down. You want a raw, real performance advantage beyond what our Ceramitech bearings offer, and this can only be achieved with the lowest friction lubricant coating available, and that coating is WS2 (Tungsten Disulfide). Period.

Tungsten Disulfide (WS2) is an industrial aerospace coating technology developed by NASA to improve the durability and performance of complex mechanical systems aboard everything from the International Space Station to probes that mapped the surface of Mars. With an astonishingly low dynamic coefficient of friction, coming in at just .030 when applied to the steel race components of our Ceramitech bearings, the WS2 coating significantly improves performance with mind-bending savings of 3-5 watts in most applications.

Our WS2 coating accomplishes these incredible gains by adding a permanent lubricating layer to the steel races while increasing surface hardness to eliminate excessive wear, seizing, galling, and fretting. Furthermore, this WS2 lubricant coating has an affinity for oils and greases, which means it maintains a hydrodynamic layer of lubricant where it’s needed most. The result is amazing spin performance and increased endurance.

An incredible increase in spin performance and durability from a high-tech coating that’s just 0.00002" thick? What can we say; Our WS2 coating is just another reminder that we are living in the future right now.

All of our Ceramitech bearings with WS2 lubricant coating feature mid-contact seals for extreme performance and durability. Each bearing comes lubricated with Kluber Isoflex Topas NB52. Lifetime Warranty.

40Nm is a lot. One thing I like to do for people is let them experience what 40Nm feels like, so I whip out the old SnapOn torque wrench, dial it up to 40, and let them muscle it...

I mean, why would Cervelo, who's touted the superiority of wider bb's for going on a decade, abandon their own BBRight standard in favor of one developed by Chris King that's simply a threaded Cannondale PF30 bottom bracket design?...

We are not trying to cut all the way through the alloy at any time. We only want to thin it out as much as possible so we can crack it easily. Let’s think of it as aggressive scoring...
