Pressfit Bottom Bracket Removal

We get a lot of questions at BBInfinite about "how to remove my old plastic press fit bottom bracket so I can install the BBInfinite module."  And there are a lot of tools available for this on the market, some of these like this one from Park, which is catered more towards like BB30 or pressfit30. And there's a Shimano specific one and all of that. But around here in this shop, the mainstay here is just going to be a common drift, I like these nice long ones right here, and a hammer. Now you are going to want to just come around here to the back side, and you want to get this down inside of here, right on the backside of the plastic cup itself. Under no circumstances do you just want to jam it in there and start hammering. You could punch a hole in your carbon frame doing this. That is not the technique. You want to come back here, look inside, if you must, grab a flashlight. Look inside and get a visual on the bearing and then get a visual on the backstop for the bearing. That's where we're aiming; aiming for the backstop for the bearing. It’s what the bearing has butted up against when it was pressed into that plastic cup. So I'm going to get on back there just like that, and now you can begin removing. Now I got one solid hit on the bottom. That's six o’clock. I want to come up to the 12 o’clock position right. Once again, looking inside, knowing what I'm hitting. That's going to be the 12 o’clock position. What I'm doing is I'm observing as it walks out, I’m observing that I'm getting it nice and even all the way around. We don't want this thing coming out crooked. And if you have to make a correction, you can deviate from that 12-6-3-9. You need more at 3? Hit more at 3. And once again this is just a matter of walking it out. Now this one’s coming out pretty easy—-but of course it’s a demonstration video. Doesn’t that always happen?—-you might have to have somebody hold the frame and brace it for you while you strike it if it's one that's a little bit tighter, or significantly tighter, or has a lot of Loctite on it. So, this one's about to come right out. And just like that... ...all right. Step one. Now for the other side. Now you can get a really good look at the back stop right here. Nice and even all the way out. There, now it's ready to go ahead and clean it up, according to instructions, and install that BBInfinite module. Explore BBInfinite to find all the ways you can become infinitely faster.
