Reaming a Carbon Frame Shell: Part 3: Press-fitting and Crank Spin Test

Reaming a Carbon Frame Shell: Part 3: Press-fitting and Crank Spin Test

December 28, 2022

In this video we press-fit a BB86/PF86 BBInfinite one-piece bottom bracket module into a carbon frame shell that we just finished reaming to size, and then we install the crank and do a spin test. In this series we are going start to finish on a Canyon Aeroroad CF SLX disc Di2 bottom bracket install. We're spending a lot of time on BB86 and BB92 because they are prolific AND because we see more out-of-spec bottom bracket shells in bikes featuring this format than others. Fear not, there's a method to what may look like madness at first. Enjoy Here's the other vids in this series:

Now you guys have seen plenty of installs so you know that I've already degreased everything before I started installing this module that means the frame and everything and now at this juncture, we always want to remove this right now and take a mid-drive inspection. But mostly what I want to show you guys is how that was going in very normally. What we would call normal nice even drag I didn't have to come here and have somebody hold the other side. Just nice even drag all the way in is what we're looking for. Now that I have the retaining compound on there you know what we're looking for that's what we're looking for the reason we're looking for that popping sound is because that's letting us know that the Loctite or in this case Vibra-Tite is working because it's anaerobic we've gone over this stuff before but for some of you who might be new to this once again you notice that it's not touching right there. The reason for that it's not touching and it feels like I'm done is because the module nose is actually touching this tool on the inside so we just need to reposition it and then you can see right there once it's repositioned pops right on in and we are home once it touches the frame in any spot it is done so let's take this out throw a crank in it see how good it is roomed it and we've installed the bb with according to the instructions and set the preload like I've shown on other videos and this is what we've got now I normally do like a spin test on this but I want to show you something else this is this is also a very good indication that there's no bearing impingement and everything is aligned perfectly because of that hub style module and that is that okay when it just sort of does that that's a very good indication that it's going to do that see ya
