In this video, we install a BBInfinite PressFit, DirectFit Shimano bottom bracket in a Cannondale, and a Dura-Ace BSA English threaded cup style bottom bracket in a Cervelo for a showdown. Who has the best spin: Shimano or BBInfinite? Watch and see.
Hi, I'm Gary with BBInfinite and today we're going to install this Dura-Ace crank with this Dura-Ace bottom bracket, which is a BSA English threaded bottom bracket vs a BBInfinite bottom bracket. Everybody knows they're the best way to run a Shimano Dura-Ace crank- right in this BSA English threaded frame. Is that really true? We here at BBInfinite can show you right now the best way to run your Shimano Dura-Ace crank system is with a BBInfinite press fit Direct Fit Shimano bottom bracket in a modern PressFit30 frame let's do it first we're gonna do a full installation and then we're gonna do the all-important spin test. We're gonna put this baby to bed once and for all and as with any BBInfinite bottom bracket installation always carefully read and follow the installation instructions along with all safety precautions and procedures and don't forget pay attention to that direction arrow which tells you which direction you should insert it into the bicycle. Well, that wasn't so hard was it now let's go screw in that old bottom bracket and see what we got. so here it is the newest Shimano Dura-Ace bottom bracket right out of the box let's install it. We're just gonna follow the manufacturers recommendation and put just a little dab of grease on both sides and then slide this crank in see a lot of people are using these and they use these to tighten the crank arm down and what you can have a lot of times is excessive preload we don't want this to be an unfair test so what I'm gonna do after kind of just getting it in a nice position is I'm gonna just use my finger and I'm actually gonna preload this just with my finger so if you guys want to see that again I'm actually leaving this loose so I can actually move it with my finger and I'm just gonna tighten it with my finger just like that and now we're gonna crank the crank arm down in the normal way and we're gonna do this all in one take so no one can say we were playing any games and stacking the cards in our favor torque wrench set to 14Nm as per the manufacturer's instructions- just like this- and now for the all-important spin test -drumroll please- come on we can get a little more out of that- well I would say it probably a good maybe seven to ten revolutions let's spin this bad boy up and see what it's got Dura-Ace with Dura-Ace doesn't get any better than that - it is very smooth and it's spinning quite well but let's see what BBInfinite can do so now let's install it in this Cannondale following the same procedure. I do it all in one take so nobody cries foul, and here's that preload adjuster once again to get that started in there and I'm just gonna tighten that with my finger just like that that's matter of fact he's a tool just to really get a seat all right let's give it the all-important spin test. A little better? oh my gosh that is infinite. So here's our Shimano Dura-Ace installation we were just spinning up in the stand let's get a better angle at it. Let's see how well it spins. Let's really get it going. Well there you have it be the infinite stuff of legend. As soon as you start getting your bottom brackets we're gonna start running crank spin tests.
